Ok…it’s in the history books….done.

Jeet, is now the all-time Yankee hit leader, he surpasses Gehrig and now we must like the Bernie Williams album, to paraphrase “Move Forward.”

We have a postseason berth to clinch.

Thank goodness we have a sizable lead to where we can afford to lose a couple. Burnett had a decent outing but the second inning was what did him in. At least he didn’t allow anymore runs after that but the game was sealed seven innings before the last out was recorded. Bullpen only gave up one run. Much better than Friday….and yes I was at the game and endured BOTH rain delays…..I don’t even think I got home until three in the morning or so. Marte was clearly NOT on his game getting torched for four runs that night.

After the second rain delay, the stadium was deserted. there was only a few of us left. You were lucky if there were 1,000 fans total. That sucked but then again what would you expect with all the rain that coming down. It was pretty cool though to watch the grounds crew in action and to see what they do to keep the field in check.

Posada, Jeet, Swish, A-Rod, Tex, Robbie….were all pulled for the night after that and it was all the young guns, a veteran (Hairston), and a couple of regulars (Matsui and Cabrera). It felt like a minor league game…it was so sad. you’ll hear a hoot here….a holler there….maybe a clap or two maybe three and possibly a whistle. Oh well, that’s baseball for ya.

Well, I gotta bounce. Heading out to the 1:05 finale in the Bronx. Sabathia on the mound today…we gotta salvage something out of this series.

Until the next blog….

Move Over Lou!!!

YO!!!

HEY LOU!!!

MOVE OVER!!!!

YOU HAVE COMPANY!!!!

…..at least for now anyway for the next couple of days (day off tomorrow you know).

The outpouring and affecttion is crazy (but in a great way) over the fact that Captain is now tied with the Iron Horse. That record stood for 72 years….

…..until Wednesday night however.

As a fellow Cancerian myself, I can relate to “not stopping and smelling the roses” at times especially when I get too sickly focused on a goal or a mission I set out to accomplish whether short or long term…it’s as if we have these built in mental blinders that just kick in when we zone out everything around us and we get uber-determined to keep our “eyes on the prize” so to speak.

Now…..is simply not the time for that and even I got choked up knowing that he accomplished such a rare milestone. Even his teammates were too….especially Jorge.

jorge posada Pictures, Images and Photos

So what we won 4-2 over the Rays and that Posada did hit the three-run homer…well…..I shouldn’t downplay it that badly to the point that it doesn’t matter….I guess the win makes it that much sweeter and it’s something that Captain expects every night when my boys hit the baseball diamond each and every game. I guess for me, It wouldn’t have mattered as much.

Players like the Captain are EXTREMELY RARE in this day and age….not only that they are always playing everyday and consistently healthy and have consistent numbers but that they have LITERALLY and FIGURATIVELY played their ENTIRE major league career with ONE team….The only other one that I know of is Craig Biggio of the Astros unless I am missing a few…..which most likely I am….again the number being quite small.

Biggio, Craig Pictures, Images and Photos

They are definitely from the OLD SCHOOL without a doubt because nowadays, if a player gets injured, they’re always on a rehab assignment, on the DL, or they are so beyond physically f***** up to the point they trade them to another team and even then they don’t know if they are going to last there and they become journeyman players. It’s sad. So you could say that Craig and the Captain were blessed more than they know.

I know Lou is smiling from upstairs and he would be more than pleased to have someone like Derek to share company with (I can see him giving El Captain a firm handshake and congratulations)….the way they both play the game….with a hard work ethic, consistency, dedication, integrity, leadership and respect.

…..and both of these players are true masters and eptiomes of what makes baseball worth while.

Ok….what’s with the Joba Rules…AGAIN?

Why won’t they just put him in the Bullpen?! I have been saying this since last years offseason! I’m sick of the pitch limit! I’m sick of the monitoring! PUT HIM IN THE BULLPEN FOR GOD’S SAKE!! THIS IS ANNOYING!!  >=(

They don’t do this with Pettitte!
They don’t do this with Sabathia!
They don’t do this with Burnett!

THEY DON’T EVEN DO THIS WITH HUGHES!!

Not to be disrespectful or anything but what makes Chamberlain so special to the point he has to have “rules” in terms of pitch count? If they limit his innings will he take on the mindset of a “reliever?” HE’S ALREADY A RELIEVER….Trying to turn a reliever into a starter! BAD…VERY BAD.

Ok…I must watch the game now….because I’m getting more pissed by the minute as talk about this.

Burnett…Catch 22

Can’t win for losing…..damned if he did…damned if he don’t. His most impressive outing of the season and STILL gets screwed.

From getting torched nine runs to sitting down 12 benchwarmers. I really don’t know what to think of all this. His only mistake was the the three run dinger to Kinsler but it wasn’t like my beloveds couldn’t come back from it, thanks in part to our RBI machine Teixeira who got slap happy with a couple, we were within one. Whoopie ding….no big deal

…or so I thought.

Thanks in part to “The Cokehead,” who got housed by Chris Davis, had to serve up a three run meatball in the seventh and the rest was history after that. Our offense couldn’t get it going this time unfortunately. But again, another speed bump on their road to October.

Not to get off the subject but what is this I hear about Jeet in en route to getting executed (i.e. married) to some chick named Nikki or something? One guy even went so far as to saying that is why he’s having such an MVP season..which in my opinion is a crock of BS. Because as I was out and about throughout the day that was the buzz with all my fellow fans at the bars and restaurants for some reason. Personally, I could give a flying f*@!  who he’s executed with….as long as he handles his business on the diamond and brings home THE BACON, that is my concern.

Sorry to be so cold and heartless on such matters but I feel that such rumors and things are not very productive as far as baseball is concerned and it’s so “high school” and that it peeves me to no end that people would make Jeet’s and other athletes personal lives to the point it’s at “Brangelina” status and it’s in the various national “smut magazines” (as I like to call them..appropriately enough). UGH!!

Ok, I would love to eleborate further on this blog but it’s early in the morning and I have to get read and head to work. Maybe later on in the evening, I can pick up where I left off while at the same time keep up with the ChiSox/Yankees game tonight…provided that it’s not raining tonight. 7:05 first pitch y’all.

Until my next blog….buh bye for now.

Rangers or my beloveds? S***!!!

I don’t know who I want to win in this series…..THIS SUCKS!

Part of me wants the Rangers to win because they are neck and neck with Boston and the Wild Card race but at the same time I want my Beloved Bombers to win to extend their division lead against them….talk about a tough choice. I hate being put in such positions.

confused Pictures, Images and Photos

This was as bad (not quite with this seies though…more minor in nature) as the 1996 World Series which that was hell in and of itself because I love both teams just as much and plus growing up in Alabama in my younger years, I watched Braves Baseball so for me, they were my team along side the Yankees then. Needless to say my schoolmates weren’t thrilled with that idea. According to my third grade teacher at the time Mrs Gauntney, “I was a confused child,” especially when it came to my alliegance to what baseball team I should support.
They made it as if I was supporting God (Braves) and the Devil (Yankees) at the same time. After all, I was born and raised in the heart of the “Bible Belt” where….

…..Sundayschool (and no I am nowhere in this photo…thank goodness. Sorry for the double negative)

…..and mid-week bible study sessions were (and still are) a huge pastime right in dead heat with baseball.

Look at the map!! And you wonder why there are “Red” states and “Blue” States….

Anyway back to the subject at hand.

I just now checked the standings on the Wild Card and the Rangers are down by 2 1/2 games. UGH!! See..this is why I’m so damn torn as it is. I want us to win but I want the Rangers to win too.

At least Pettitte was much better this time around than his last start. Seven innings, two runs on five hits and punched up seven benchwarmers. Tee Hee ;) and my babies this time around went 5 for 5 with RISP and left two men on base the entire game. Sweet!!

Yesterdays game was a slugfest…and Chamberlain got lit up badly…torched for seven runs, a career-high and was forced to hit the showers early. Gaudin or more appropriately (as one blogger and Lady Bomber Marisol calls him) Popeye was lit up for three runs too of which he threw hanging meatballs down the plate and naturally they became Homerun Du Jour specials. Marte like last time…no problems. He sat down two benchwarmers in his inning and a third of work so he’s slowly but surely is working on lessening that ERA of his which is right now just over eleven because in the initial stages of him coming over from Pitt, he was getting housed like crazy but I have confidence that he’ll straighten this problem out as time progresses.

The offense had to go to work on that one. I’m so mad Melky’s line drive became an inning-ending DP. So close!!! If we were down by nine runs, I wouldn’t bug as much but one?! And it was 10-9?!?! That got me so heated!!!! But hey, it’s only a speed bump so I’m not going to get extremely upset over it.

Well, tomorrow is the rubber match of this series and it’s a must win…regardless it will have an effect on Boston negatively and as sadistc and messed up as this is, if the Rangers do win they will be able to stay in pace of Boston to eliminate them out of Wild Card contention….which is what I truly would like but hey a girl can wish can she?

Well, until my next blog folks……

Pitching much better…on both sides tonight.

….but then again it’s only a snapshot but considering what I witnessed the last couple of games. This was an improvement nonetheless.

….although Beckett was getting torched in the worst way possible for any pitcher….inning by inning….a run here, a couple there. It’s like more and more salt was being poured on an open wound and it’s burning worse and worse. The only frames that there wasn’t any salt poured was the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings. It was like…….no, we don’t wanna kill ya but watch ya suffer. Now he did go eight innings deep so that at least he helped out the bullpen. in that respect…again going back to having fresh arms.

Sabathia didn’t go as deep as Beckett but he did his job just as well. Four runs (three earned) on eight hits but struckout eight in 6 2/3 innings of work. and now his ERA is just slightly over 3 1/2. Hughes got in on the action with a strikeout of his own (ERA at a respectable 3.33) in setup to Mr. Sandman who sat down two in the ninth. His ERA is under 2 at this point. Almost back to Vintage Mo type numbers eh? He’s getting ready for the postseason….uh, better not get too greedy on such matters. One game at a time.

My boys despite yesterday’s loss with the valiant efforts in terms of hitting and getting on base which they were still doing, today’s game was in huge contrast. There were five taters, two of those thrillas came from Godzilla himself #55. Needless to say he made his presence felt at Fenway this weekend. Captain wasted no time flat jumping on the first pitch to knock in his 21st career leadoff tater…and his 16th homer this season. Cano did some damage with a solo dinger of his own in the 4th as well as Rodriguez who cleared the Green Monster with his two run smoker in the fifth. Like I said….inning by inning….and they slowly chipped away at Beckett.

My babies went 1 for 3 with RISP, and left two men on… A HUGE IMPROVEMENT to yesterdays 13. So in a sense there was sort of an offensive slugfest. Just not like it was Friday nor Saturday because both pitchers were doing their part just Beckett was malfunctioning here and there and when those portals of malfunction were opened even the slightest bit, my Bombers WILL make you pay for it….and vice versa. Look what happened to us yesterday (Alright T!!! girlfriend, stop thinking about it. I already made myself sick to my stomach with this debacle yesterday and that’s more than enough). I just hope that Burnett figures out his Fenway woes by next season because I don’t wanna have to write any more blogs on Burnett and his Fenway mental blocks. That’s just oo much man….too much.

Well, now that my babies are heading home to 161st and River Ave, we have a six game homestand to attend to. My friend Tamie’s team, the Rangers will be here (I think on Tuesday because my beloveds have tomorrow off)…just checked the schedule and yes they will have some R and R tomorrow. Spending time with families, A-Rod may splurge at Bergdorf, Jeter at Barneys and making a call or two checking to see how his Turn 2 Foundation is doing, Tex sending some human “Tex Messages” to his little tykes at home, having a rare din din out at a nice restaurant…….Alright T, shut up. You’re getting sentimental….this is about Baseball and NOT ABOUT A PERSONAL PLAY BY PLAY PREDICTION OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING IN THEIR DOING IN THEIR DAILY LIVES SO TO SPEAK….so cut the crap woman! Sorry I had to snap out of it.

Ok folks, I have to call my pal Tamie and get her predictions on the three game set with my Bombers vs. her Rangers. I know she’s psyched that they are doing so well that they could end up in the playoffs so everyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area is on edge with every single game at this point.

Until next my next blog folks….be good and stay safe.

Damon possibly back in lineup for Rubber Match…

…..AND THANK GOODNESS!!

I love Hinske….excellent journeyman veteran player..been on conxecutive World Series teams..

…. but PULLEEEEZZEE….don’t put him out in leftfield….at least when we are in Fenway….EVER….that’s all I ask. I would’ve rather seen Matsui in left! Although he doesn’t have the greatest throwing arm but I consider it the lesser of the two evils so to speak.

As I said in my previous blog, the pitching matchup is going to be a stellar one but we won’t know how this is going to play itself out until 8:05 tonight.

I personally sense a duel between the two but then again as we all know baseball is an absolute crap shoot…you don’t really know from one game to the next much less one inning to the next.

Offensive Slugfest/Pitching and Defensive Woes @ Fenway

If there was ever a time where pitchers could get away with fugly half-*** performances, this is the time.

Yes 31 runs were scored on Friday night but what really alarmed me was the pitching. Pettitte was not as sharp as he would have liked and he knows that. Giving up seven runs is not a good thing for any pitcher. Bullpen was better (Marte was the only one who did his job….sad but true) but not by much. And even when I saw Girardi’s reactions, he was far from thrilled so I could sense there was going to be a huge pep talk after and before today’s game….

….or he clearly must to have forgotten to add that to today’s schedule of things to do or the only one’s that got it and handled their business was Swisher and Cano (even Melky) it seemed.

Granted it was only one loss and we were on a five game winning streak up until today but that loss in a sense didn’t suprise me too much given Burnett’s history so far at Fenway wearing the Pinstripes. He’s 0-3 with an ERA of over 14 and was torched for a career-high nine runs. A far cry from the outstanding one hitter he did against Boston at home during the four game sweep in the Bronx in which he got a no decision. Even when he let Roidtiz knock a tater over the Green Monster and you could clearly see the frustration on his face while on the mound asking himself “Why?” at least six times, you can tell he was beyond peeved, annoyed and digusted with his performance. It’s definitely something in the subconscious psyche that just kicks in whenever he’s in Boston but he’s going to have to fight through it somehow. At least this will be his last start in Fenway for the season but we still have to play another three game set at home in the Boogie Down but that won’t be until near the end of next month.

These last two games have been pure 100% offense all the way regardless of the lopsided blowouts. It has carried both games without question. Tazawa was much more comfortable this time around even though he was knocked around hits wise but that was all he dealt with. Bombers left 13 men on at least three different occasions we had runners on third and couldn’t cash them in….and that was beyond annoying…. my beloveds went 0 for 9 with RISP….that was what got my blood boiling!

Hinske in left was not good at all defensively (kinda like how Youklis is NOT an outfielder). Now considering he wore that dreadful Fenway uniform in 07′ he would have had some understanding and insight into handling the Green Monster but he was a rightfielder while there so I could let him slide a bit in that regard because left field in that ballpark was clearly NOT his specialty but then again Damon was sidelined because of a bruised knee from Friday’s game…and he would have been a perfectly logical choice for today’s lineup. He played there for several seasons. Lots of patchwork and hole-filling on both teams which really got under my skin…jeez.

Well, Sunday’s rubber match finale will be worth watching due to the pitching match up which I thnk will be stellar to say the least…Sabathia and Beckett. Both are 14 game winners, both are aces and both can go deep into games (provided that neither starts to malfunction…then we may have another day of Offensive Slugfesting). At least I can take some comfort in knowing that regardless of what happens we will, at the very least have a 5 1/2 game lead. My babies just have to keep pushing and play every game as if it was Game 7 of the World Series.

Until I blog next time folks…Peace, Pride, Power, Pinstripes and Soul. (Hey I like Soul Train and Don Cornelius…whatd’ya wanna know).

To add to Julia’s recent comment.

Granted…..I’m not one who goes out and humiliates every team on the planet but I was practically villified just because I was a Yankees fan when I was living there and I don’t go dumping on teams but when I was getting that hostility shoved down my throat day in and day out consistently from Red Sox fans , I had no choice at times but to snap back and for me….this is pure vindication. They had this notion that they don’t have anyone on their team doing steroids and that was why I was staunchly opposed to George Mitchell overseiing the steroids investigation because of his ties and as Peter Gammons clearly stated on ESPN this past Friday…his report did not address the issue and no one doesn’t want to touch it.

I know my team is far from innocent, you don’t have to tell me that and yes I know that this is another black mark on baseball. Baseball will never regain its integrity until the corruption in the MLB offices and corrupted owners alike are outsted.

…….And The Chickens FINALLY Came To Fenway To Roost…..

…..and this was LOOOONG OVERDUE….

Now I won’t copy word for word verbatum because I refuse to get in trouble or anything but I’m going to give you links to why I have been waiting for this to finally blow up after all these years…(you’ll have to copy and paste these to your browser….Happy Reading!)

Links regarding Mitchell’s ties with the Red Sox which makes his 2007 report extremely biased (Yes, I know that this was regarding the 2003 report….now naturally you would think he would have used that in his report especially if he really wanted to “get to the bottom of it” despite the court seal….names are still leaking out anyway but as the old saying goes…”Whatever is in the darkness WILL come to light.” One way or anotherTHE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS COME OUT….PERIOD).

….nothing personal against you Julia because I know you are good people and you mean well and I know you’re a true baseball head but after living in Boston for 13 years before moving to NYC eight months ago, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired of Boston fans using my Bronx Bombers as scapegoats for their own sick and sadistic hatred of all things New York and Pinstripes…..now it’s all come out in the wash. FINALLY!
